MY WHY

I’m running for Mayor of Farr West because I believe the way we lead impacts the way people live. And one of the most important things we can do for each other is to listen. When we truly listen to those within our span of care, we show them that they matter.

Serving others has always been a profound source of personal strength for me. Whether I’m coaching, teaching, supporting, fellowshipping, worshipping with, or simply lifting up those around me, each act of service deepens my sense of connection; to others, to community, and to something greater than myself. "In giving, I receive strength, and in helping others grow, I grow too." And, I promise to always listen.

I believe real leadership means listening to all sides and being willing to sit at the table, even when opinions differ.
✅ I live here.
✅ I work here.
✅ I love it here.

My Family, my Country, my Faith, and our City. Serving others has always been at the heart of my life, and I believe more people should have a place at the table, not fewer. I am strengthened by the love and support of my family and find purpose in serving them, my community, my faith, and our country.

My “why” is simple. I’m excited to run for Mayor of Farr West. I have no hidden agendas or obligations, just running as a friend and neighbor. If I were only interested in “rolling up my sleeves,” I would have chosen to run for City Council or serve on the Planning Commission. The good men and women serving there already do the lion’s share of our city governing, and I am grateful for all they do.

But, with that said, when I learned our current Mayor was likely to run unopposed, I felt two things: a strong desire to likewise roll up my sleeves and work hard with our City leaders, but also deep passion to combine that with an opportunity to use one of my talents, and using my voice to build bridges, break down barriers and strengthen connections in our city through listening to you. The role of Mayor has a sacred opportunity, and I feel responsibility to help do that in a small city, and I would be honored to carry that torch for a season.

I also believe strongly that our community deserved a choice in the election. I don’t believe public service should be treated as a mere stepping stone or a formality that automatically positions someone for promotion through seniority or pathway to higher office. It should always be an open, good-faith process that gives voters the opportunity to decide. "We" should get to decide that in a democracy, not by default.

My “why” is about using my voice to strengthen connections; with people, business leaders, and the many skilled residents in our city who aren’t yet involved. Building bridges, transparency, unity, and connection is at the heart of my campaign. I’m not running for me, I’m running for all of us.

This summer, for example, I started inviting friends and neighbors to join with me at City Council and Planning Commission meetings. One of those people was Rob Bullen, a resident of Farr West, but also a member of the Professional Disc Golf Assoc., who later shared, “I like how he is bringing people together and getting more people involved. Dave invited me to attend a city meeting. At the meeting I found out that the city was having a hard time getting a proposed disc golf course over the finish line. I was happy to help find a way to get the disc golf project done with the current funds. This is just one example of how getting more people involved will benefit us all.”

That experience captures what I hope to bring to Farr West: more collaboration, more ideas, and more people connected to the work of our city.

For two decades, I worked in a senior management role in Salt Lake that didn’t leave me with the time or energy to take on additional city leadership roles beyond the volunteer and ecclesiastical service I was already giving to our community. That has since changed. I have since been blessed to leverage my real estate broker licenses across a few dozen states in a way that allows me both the flexibility and financial independence to serve as Mayor on day one, full time, as needed, and I am excited to have the full time capacity to do that now. One of my campaign promises and at the heart of my "why" is that I am not running because I have always had the opportunity to be at the table, I am running so more of us can be there.

I want everyone to know that I deeply respect the Mayor and his nearly 20 years of service to Farr West, and running for office doesn't mean I am mad at him or do not like him. But, leadership isn’t about hierarchy, rank, or privilege. To those who suggest you must “earn it” by “putting in their dues” or climbing the ranks of different roles in the city before running for Mayor or other city office, my concern is that this mindset discourages any new voices from participating, holds back well qualified and experienced residents, and suggests that you must first be part of a club to be considered. I disagree with that notion, and want to help change that feeling many have by opening the door wider, making room for more people, more ideas, more involvement, not fewer.

I will also bring a fresh voice and a new management style, one centered on connection, visibility, service, listening and transparency. As mayor, you have a responsibility to be visible, to be sociable and to be approachable. I will be open with every city representative and invite more residents into the process. Let’s open our discussions, files, agendas, plans, and reviews to inspire solution-driven input from everyone, and not limit it to a select few who are involved. My wish is to increase future interest in Mayoral & City Council races in our city, where more residents are excited to participate, get involved, and run for future office —and I hope to help make that the norm by promoting open, connection-driven leadership that gets more residents excited about participating in local government.

Public service is about ideas, choices, and freedoms, where we can be genuinely excited to be part of solutions. I don’t believe any leadership should be a matter of seniority, rank or entitlement. I’m passionate about finding ways to bring more people to the table and creating space for new ideas from our neighbors, friends, and community. In all of my service and private sector leadership, I have always surrounded myself with diverse points of view, to help push me beyond my comfort zone. I believe when we bring multiple perspectives, personalities, backgrounds and experiences to the table, the discussions are deeper, the decision-making process is better, and the solutions are always more inspired and better for everyone. I will lead with this in mind.

I also aim to bring my 20+ year career in leadership & business background and experience in executive leadership, portfolio management, negotiations, people and client/investor management, and two decade background in real estate to assist our city’s continued growth, while preserving the small-town community feel so many of you have shared with me. I will specifically champion for “owner-occupied” housing opportunities rather than the “high-density apartments” that are currently being promoted and proposed to our City today. We don’t have an apartment shortage in Weber County, but we do have an attainable housing shortage that’s pushing the American Dream further out of reach for too many, including our children. I’ll use my experience to negotiate and advocate for housing and development options that are best for Farr West, for our children, and for our community. I have heard your pleas and your input on this subject over the past 4 months as I have been campaigning, and I will work hard to advocate for your voices and concerns.

My faith in God continues to guide my campaign win or lose. I will look to Him to guide my service to our community in everything I do. I will rely on His wisdom and strength as I work hard to listen and collaborate with you, as residents, neighbors, and friends. I want to continue respecting our past and protecting what makes Farr West special, while shaping our future through connection, listening, and unity.

I am deeply grateful for your support and humbly ask for your vote to serve as your next Mayor of Farr West. It would be an honor and privilege to serve you in this capacity.

Thank you,
David Bolos
